English League One game off after volunteer’s cardiac arrest

BARNSLEY, England (AP) — The English League One game between Barnsley and Burton was postponed after a popular Barnsley volunteer suffered cardiac arrest before Saturday’s game.

The kickoff was initially delayed as an air ambulance landed on the pitch at Oakwell, and the match was eventually called off around 30 minutes later.

The long-time matchday staff member, Stephen Croft, was flown to Sheffield Northern General hospital.

His family, through a statement released by the club, said his condition was serious but stable.
