Mets’ Zack Wheeler to see Dr. James Andrews for elbow discomfort

NEW YORK — Zack Wheeler is going to visit Dr. James Andrews after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow after his first rehab start.

New York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler (45) throws in the spring training baseball game against the Miami Marlins at Tradition Field.

Wheeler is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, and made his first rehab start last Saturday with Class A St. Lucie. Wheeler had been scheduled to pitch again this week but he has not thrown since that first start.

Any setback could threaten the possibility of Wheeler returning this season. He missed all of the 2014 season after undergoing the surgery last March.
